An NHG extra care scheme has won a prestigious award voted on by residents themselves.
Cheviot Gardens in Lambeth offers a mix of rented and shared ownership homes for older people. It won a Gold Award at the Elderly Accommodation Council (EAC) National Housing for Older People Awards.
Residents and colleagues from Cheviot Gardens went to collect the award at a ceremony in Manchester on 21 May where guest speakers included BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond and Barbara Nice, the comedy creation of Janice Connolly.
Mary Xtian, service manager at Cheviot Gardens said “Winning the award was a great boost to staff and residents’ morale and we were really delighted to be bestowed with such an honour. We have always felt that Cheviot Gardens is a fantastic scheme and it is all the more rewarding to know our residents feel the same way.
Each year EAC celebrates successful examples of housing for later life. Voting is open to all residents of all housing for later life in the UK, as well as visitors and staff, and almost 19,000 votes were received between February 2018 and February 2019.
Mary continued, “The event was beyond our expectations and the atmosphere was electrifying. The residents and staff really enjoyed themselves saying it was a great day and memorable day.”
