Celebrating Eid at Vale community centre in Brent

We joined residents and the local community of Kilburn to celebrate the significant Muslim festival Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday 10 April.

Eid al-Fitr is the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the local community marked the end of fasting by getting together to get to know each other better and share food.

The festivities took place at Vale Community Centre, Pentland Road, Kilburn, facilitated by our residents with help from community organisation The SPACE. Our welfare benefits team was also on hand to offer advice to anyone who needed it.

The SPACE run sessions on Wednesdays at the community centre to support families with essential items needed for the care of babies and young children. They have been co-funded by our Love Where You Live fund since 2022. The SPACE aims to alleviate the financial strain on families by providing them with essential items that are sometimes out of reach for those facing economic challenges. At the community centre they have a food bank, clothes, baby essentials and run physical activities for children aged 8-15 years.

It was a memorable and meaningful event with traditional food, music and entertainment activities. For families and children there was face painting, a gaming party bus, football, henna, treats and much more. There was a strong community atmosphere and it was delightful to see everyone enjoying themselves.
