Have your say on housing regulation

In July 2023, the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 became law. This means from April 2024, the regulator can assess landlords more routinely and proactively, and take action in a wider range of circumstances.

These new powers were given to the regulator to help it improve the quality of housing and services.

As part of its aim to reshape consumer regulation, the regulator is seeking views from residents on four draft consumer standards. These are specific expectations and outcomes that all registered providers will be expected to achieve.

The draft standards are:

  • The safety and quality standard
  • The transparency, influence and accountability standard
  • The neighbourhood and community standard
  • The tenancy standard

The regulator wants residents to let it know the following:

  • Whether the consumer standards it is proposing would set the right expectations for landlords
  • If the proposed Code of Practice gives helpful examples of how to meet the standards

If you want to find out more about the new standards we will be holding a Zoom event for residents from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday 3 October. If you’d like to attend, contact involvement@nhg.org.uk

The consultation will run until mid-October. To find out more or have your say, visit the government website
