Young NHG resident gains employment through partnerships working

Despite completing a diploma in plumbing two years ago and making a huge effort to apply for work, Ayden proved unsuccessful. Then his mum saw an advert for a plumbing apprenticeship advertised by Notting Hill Genesis’ Partnerships Team in August last year and encouraged him to get in touch.

Ayden received support from NHG partnerships officer Aku Caliph to complete a job application online. He was encouraged to answer all the questions and to give examples of his experience and skills. When he was selected for an interview, Ayden was referred to one of NHG’s employment support partners – Love London Working – where he received one-to-one support to help him prepare. The interview was a success and Ayden was trained in health and safety in construction, gaining his Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card for free through NHG’s training partner, TFL Construction.

Ayden is now on site at our Oaklands development, working alongside LJJ plumbing contractors and Vistry Partnerships. His line manager, Caroline Walker, has said “Ayden is doing extremely well. He has a really positive attitude to learning and is developing his skills and knowledge weekly.”

Ayden said: “I have now been in my apprenticeship role for four months and I am loving it. I have learned how to work as part of a team and my confidence is growing. The support I received from
NHG and its partners was amazing, and I really appreciate it. I look forward to progressing into a permanent senior role once my apprenticeship is complete.”

NHG’s Partnerships team works with external organisations to offer residents and our communities with vital support, including employment, training, money management, debt advice and health and wellbeing support. It is made easy for housing and property management officers to offer direct referrals to external organisations who offer specialist services.
