Residents enjoyed food, fun and games and learned about free children’s activities at a summer picnic in July.
Vernon Lodge in Harrow provides short term accommodation to families awaiting a more stable form of Temporary Housing.
The picnic was well-attended and everyone agreed it had been a great success.
Younger children enjoyed some colourful arts and crafts throughout the afternoon, while their older siblings took part in a variety of lively ball games, including football and basketball overseen by two Harrow youth workers.
A delicious spread was provided for lunch, and for dessert the children really enjoyed making their own healthy ice cream cones filled with fruit and yogurt.
Representatives from the Gange childrens’ group were on hand to offer parenting advice, and provided information to the families about free summer holiday activities. It was a great opportunity for residents to meet each other, and get to know Vernon Lodge staff better.
Afterwards residents expressed how much their children had enjoyed themselves. One resident said her son was always too shy to talk or play with the other children living in the hostel, but thanks to the picnic he has socialised and made some new friends.
