We are always impressed by the creativity of residents in our extra care schemes and those talents will be celebrated up and down the country this month as part of the National Day of Arts in Care Homes.
The event, on Thursday 24 September, is themed around Creative Communities and managed by the National Activities Providers Association. We have already seen recently our residents and staff get creative with a photo project at Cheviot Gardens in West Norwood.
Research has shown that access to arts makes care home residents happier and healthier, with Arts in Care Homes believing residents should be offered a range of art activities every day to enhance their quality of life and increase wellbeing and motivation.
On the day, care schemes are being urged to organise art activities and share stories about the way they have used art to stay connected during the Covid-19 crisis, as well as share details of events on social media, using the hashtags #AICH2020 and #CreativeCommunities as well as mentioning @artsincarehomes and @NAPA livinglife.
If you are from an arts organisation and would be interested in working with one of our extra care schemes, please get in touch with Mandy Worster.
