Resident Black History Month events

October is Black History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements, contributions and experiences of Black people past and present.

While these stories deserve recognition all year round, Black History Month gives us a dedicated opportunity to pause, reflect, learn and celebrate together.

This year's theme, Honouring Our Communities, encourages us to recognise the people, stories and contributions that help shape our communities every day.

Join us at one of our resident events.

More about the singing workshop

Music has always connected people across communities, generations and oceans. This inspiring workshop invites residents to explore the musical traditions of the Black Atlantic, uncovering the stories, experiences and cultural influences woven into folk songs that have travelled between Africa, the Caribbean, North America and the United Kingdom.

The session will offer a welcoming space to listen, learn and participate. Through singing, storytelling and discussion, attendees will gain insight into how music has preserved history, expressed hope and strengthened communities through generations.

Residents are also warmly invited to bring a song that is meaningful to them. This could be a traditional song you grew up with, something connected to family or community, or a song that has travelled with you and holds special significance. Participants will have the opportunity to share the stories and memories behind these songs as part of the workshop experience.

Who can attend?

The workshop is open to all residents. No previous musical experience is needed, just a willingness to join in and enjoy the experience. Everyone is welcome.

We look forward to welcoming you for an afternoon of music, culture and community.
