NHG colleagues recently rolled up their sleeves for a day of volunteering at Colindale Community Garden, helping to maintain and improve a much-loved green space for Grahame Park residents.
On a sunny day in late September, a group of NHG colleagues spent the day volunteering at the Colindale Community Garden, supporting the continued growth of this vibrant community space at our Grahame Park redevelopment.

Run by our partners at Wayward, the garden is a welcoming space where residents can enjoy nature, learn new skills, grow fruit and vegetables, and spend time outdoors. With its allotments, greenhouses and educational areas, the garden is helping to create a greener, healthier and more connected community.
The team got stuck into a variety of tasks, including sowing seeds, weeding, planting areas, painting community blackboards and supporting composting activities. Every task helped to keep the garden looking its best and ready for residents to enjoy.
Among those volunteering was Tabitha Kassam, Chief Governance and Risk Officer and a member of the Executive Board, highlighting our commitment to supporting communities and investing in places that make a real difference to residents' lives.
Tabitha said:
“This was such a special and fun day. It was great to meet our residents, see one of our thriving communities and get to know colleagues better. I'm already looking forward to my next volunteering day.”
The day was coordinated by Wayward, who guided volunteers through activities that will help the garden continue to flourish as a valuable community asset.
A space for residents to learn, grow and connect
Colindale Community Garden is more than just a green space. It provides opportunities for residents to learn new skills, support local biodiversity, spend time outdoors and connect with their neighbours.
Through ongoing care and investment, the garden continues to grow as a place where people can come together, improve wellbeing and take pride in their local community.
Together, we're helping to ensure Colindale Community Garden remains a thriving space for residents to enjoy for years to come.
Improving our communities together
We launched our new Roots and Reach volunteering programme in the summer. As part of our ongoing commitment to connect our staff to the residents and communities we serve, all our 1700 staff members will be offered one free day of volunteering a year.
We are now organising more and more volunteering days across our communities, to help with projects like gardening, painting community spaces, skip days and much, much more.
Our contractors and partners often provide the materials and expertise free of charge as part of their social value commitments.
We would love for residents to get involved on this journey with us. Look out for invitations in your area to get involved with the continuous improvement of our neighbourhoods and a chance to chat to NHG colleagues from all levels of the organisation while you work.
If you spot a project in your area that our army of volunteers can help with, speak to your local officer and ask them to put the project forward for consideration as part of the programme.
