New public sculpture celebrates Croydon's stories of identity, belonging and community
Voices of Croydon: Echoes of Passage, created by acclaimed digital sculptor Rayvenn Shaleigha D'Clark, stands outside the Aspect building on Wellesley Road and explores themes of migration, identity, resilience and belonging through three large-scale composite portraits.
The artwork was developed through engagement with local residents and community groups, who shared reflections on journeys, migration, identity and the meaning of home. Their stories helped inform the creation of three composite portraits, which together reflect the diversity of experiences, cultures and communities that make up contemporary Croydon.
Located within the public realm and freely accessible to residents, commuters and visitors, the sculpture creates a new cultural landmark along one of the borough's busiest routes, complementing a new landscaped space with seating designed to provide a welcoming place to pause, connect and enjoy the surroundings.
Croydon is one of London's most diverse boroughs, with generations of migration helping to shape its social, cultural and economic identity. Voices of Croydon: Echoes of Passage recognises that history and celebrates the communities that continue to contribute to the borough's future.
The commission forms part of the wider Aspect development, which has delivered 92 affordable shared ownership homes in central Croydon. Alongside new homes, the artwork contributes to a distinctive public realm that reflects the character and diversity of the local community.

Rayvenn Shaleigha D'Clark said:
"Voices of Croydon is a tribute to belonging, resilience and the stories we carry with us. Each face reflects an individual experience, while together they speak to the richness and diversity of our shared community. It is a reminder that our differences are not something to fear, but the very foundation of who we are."
Mark Walford, Senior Project Manager, Homes said:
"This artwork reflects the people and communities that make Croydon such a vibrant and diverse place. Shaped by local stories and experiences, it creates a lasting landmark that celebrates belonging, strengthens local identity and contributes to a welcoming public realm for residents and visitors alike."
The artwork was commissioned by Notting Hill Genesis in partnership with Rayvenn Shaleigha D'Clark, MTArt Agency and Artelier Art Consultancy.
Voices of Croydon: Echoes of Passage is now on permanent public display outside Aspect, Wellesley Road, Croydon.
