Bolney Meadow Community Centre is bringing art and community together through a new initiative that is transforming the centre's main hall into a vibrant exhibition space for residents and visitors to enjoy.
As part of NHG's continued investment in our community centres, Bolney Meadow has benefitted from a programme of creative improvements designed to enhance community spaces, support wellbeing and bring residents together.
Following recent refurbishment works, the centre is now home to a rotating gallery of large-format photographs by local artist Adrian Flower. As Artist in Residence, Adrian will be working with the community over the coming months to deliver exhibitions, workshops and opportunities for local people to engage with art in an accessible and welcoming setting.
A gallery at the heart of the community
The project aims to make art more accessible by bringing it directly into a community space already used by hundreds of people each week.
Local schools, community groups, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to view exhibitions, learn more about the artwork on display and take part in creative activities. Future exhibitions will also provide opportunities for local artists to showcase their work within the community.
Launching a new creative chapter
The initiative officially launched in June with a special exhibition event attended by residents, local artists and members of the local community.
The launch celebrated the beginning of a new approach to community spaces, demonstrating how creativity can be used to enhance shared environments, encourage participation and create stronger connections between people and place.

Supporting wellbeing and community pride
Research has shown that access to arts and cultural activities can support wellbeing, reduce social isolation and strengthen community connections. By incorporating art into everyday community spaces, Bolney Meadow is creating an environment that is welcoming, inspiring and accessible to all.
The artwork also helps create a stronger sense of pride in the centre, encouraging people to value and look after the spaces they use.
The introduction of art has enhanced the centre without affecting its existing programme of activities. Bolney Meadow continues to host a wide range of services and events, including fitness classes, youth activities, workshops, celebrations, community gatherings and blood donation sessions. The gallery sits alongside these activities, adding another dimension to a space that already plays an important role in local community life.
Looking ahead
Bolney Meadow is the first of several community centres that will benefit from creative improvements designed to enhance the experience of residents and visitors.
This project forms part of NHG's wider investment in local communities, with opportunities to bring similar creative initiatives to other community centres across our neighbourhoods.
As the programme develops, more exhibitions, workshops and opportunities for local artists will be introduced, helping to ensure community centres remain welcoming, vibrant spaces that support wellbeing, creativity and community connection.
