Energy support services
Free energy vouchers – For residents with prepayment meters
Energy vouchers for households on pre-payment meters experiencing financial hardship.
You can receive up to six vouchers for the year worth £49 each and these are redeemed at Pay Point and Post Office.

Pocket Power empowers people on lower incomes to apply for discounts and switch to cheaper providers for their household bills.
Residents referred to the service will be booked in for a 1-2-1 phone appointment to go through their situation.

Energy assistance and money saving service that is helping people keep warm during the colder months and reduce their energy bills without costing them any money.
Please note you must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Low household income (£31k or less) and/or are in receipt of state benefits.
- Energy Advise
- Homeowners with a broken boiler and in a no heat situation (visit website for criteria)
- Appliance/White Goods Support

The Seasonal Health Intervention Network (SHINE) support families in fuel poverty and complete a holistic assessment for up to 30 other local services. They support energy bill discounts, grants, debt clearance and can do a home visit from energy doctor etc.

Community and government support
Warm spaces are welcoming community venues offering a free, safe, and heated environment for anyone who needs to stay warm especially during winter when energy costs are high.
Many provide extra amenities such as hot drinks, social activities, and access to facilities like Wi-Fi and computers, along with practical support and advice.

A one-off £150 discount on your electricity bill during winter. It’s applied directly to your bill (or as a voucher for prepayment meters), not paid as cash.
Eligibility
England and Wales:
· Core Group 1: If you receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, you qualify automatically.
· Core Group 2: Low-income households with high energy costs (based on property characteristics and benefits such as Universal Credit, Income Support, Housing Benefit, etc.)
How to apply
- Most eligible households in England & Wales are identified automatically.
- In Scotland or if you live in a park home, you may need to apply via your supplier.

An annual payment of £100–£300 to help older people with heating costs.
Eligibility:
- Born on or before 22 September 1959
- Lived in the UK during the qualifying week (15–21 September 2025)
- Most people get it automatically if they receive State Pension or certain benefits
Payment details:
- £200 if aged 66–79
- £300 if aged 80 or over
- Paid automatically in November or December

A £25 per week payment for each 7-day period of very cold weather (0°C or below), between 1 November and 31 March.
Eligibility:
You must receive certain benefits, such as:
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Universal Credit (with specific conditions)
Payments are triggered automatically when your local area experiences qualifying cold weather.

Grants - Energy supplier schemes
These funds for these schemes are subject to availability and can close at any time.
What it offers:
- Grants to clear domestic gas and electricity debts (up to £2,000).
- Fuel vouchers and emergency credit for prepayment customers.
- Funding for local advice services offering free money and energy advice.
Who can apply:
- Open to all UK residents, not just British Gas customers (though priority may apply).
- Must have received independent debt advice before applying.

- Octopus customers in financial hardship or vulnerable circumstances.

What it offers:
- Helps clear or reduce arrears on ScottishPower energy accounts by crediting the account.
Eligibility:
- Customers on low income or receiving benefits such as Income Support, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, Pension Credit, Child/Working Tax Credits.
- Special circumstances like income reduction due to illness may also qualify
Conditions:
- Must seek advice from a debt charity (e.g., StepChange) before applying.
- Awards can only be made once every 3 years and for accounts with more than £100 debt.
