Factory Quarter Makeover Nhg

Social value helps makeover Factory Quarter community hub

Over February half term R Bensons heroically completed an entire makeover of the community space at Factory Quarter.

All of this work was undertaken at the request of Helen Mullings who runs her organisation Nourished Routes from there running various activities for residents’ children to teach them about nutrition and wellbeing. She also does a supper club each Wednesday which means parents get to have an evening off from their kids.

Helen has long wanted to upgrade the kitchen to better meet her needs and so that the space could provide more space and be a safer space for children. Our contractor R Bensons were all too happy to help and even managed to do it in half term when the kids weren’t going to be there.

They replaced all the damaged kitchen units, and doors and removed trollies and obsolete shelving units. In their place Helen has now got a brand new kitchen, safety gates, coat hooks and handmade multi-purpose storage bench.

R Bensons were selected as the contractor for this project as one of our planned works kitchen and bathroom contractors. It was a perfect fit for them, and they even repurposed some unused kitchen units and worktops that have been in storage from omitted NHG projects.

This helped make the space be a more welcoming and professional environment, increasing the hub’s commercial viability and revenue and position the space more competitively against nearby alternatives.

After completing the works, R Bensons even came to drop off some goodies for the children which Helen was delighted to have and will use the seeds and art materials for an upcoming Mother’s Day project.

Helen said: "I wanted to take a moment to say the biggest, most heartfelt thank you to R Bensons and NHG for the incredible improvements you’ve made to the Hub. The transformation has been nothing short of wonderful. The Hub now feels lighter, safer, and far more purposeful.

"Children are taking greater pride in the environment, putting things away independently, and treating the space with care. It has genuinely lifted the whole atmosphere, and I feel incredibly grateful and excited to come to work each day."

This is just one of the ways social value can be used to make a real difference to residents.
