In an effort to give back to our communities, some of our operations team recently worked alongside our Social Value team to arrange a gardening day at one of our estates.
This was a community bulb planting morning across the Denmark Hill, Ashworth Close and Harbord Close Estate. Supported by amazing volunteers from Ginkgo Gardens Ltd, Fixatex Ltd and Evans & Shea Ltd, we joined several residents in planting daffodil bulbs throughout the communal garden spaces, carparks and along the public right of way. Fixatex and Evans & Shea generously donated 6,000 daffodil bulbs, several bags of compost, new gardening tools such as spades and kneelers and the kind help of their volunteers.

We were joined by six residents who took part in the planting, as well as helping to provide tea and coffee for the volunteers. It was a brilliant morning, and although we were caught in the rain towards the end, the weather was surprisingly bright and mild for most of the morning!

This was a fantastic opportunity to give back to the residents, who had not had a regular gardening contract since the contractor change in February of this year. Ginkgo were recently brought on board as the gardening provider and have quickly made improvements to the scheme. The gardening day and kind donation gave us the opportunity to make much needed improvements for the long-term appearance of the communal spaces and make it a place all residents can be proud of.

We’re looking at coming back in February or March to see how our efforts are blooming as well as hosting a second gardening day later in the spring.
