We joined Art in the Docks for a community day for local residents which involved a bee friendly planting event followed by painting and drawing.
The event was a great way to teach local residents about gardening and growing things on their balconies. Not only can they take pride in their local area, but as the plants were all bee friendly, they also had the chance to learn more about how important bees are to a balanced ecology.

Pavlin Ivanov from Bermondsey Street Bees also came along to talk about the lifecycle of bees and it was great to see people of all ages were absolutely captivated by what he had to say.
On the day alongside the local community we were able to:
- hand out over 130 pots of bee friendly plants
- plant four apple trees
- add to the existing children’s garden by the Art in the Docks project space
- create (more than one) community drawn chalk garden
Art in the Docks also hold a weekly kids’ club which drew a collective audience of more than 80 people, most of whom went on to visit the Bow Arts open studios.
We support Art in the Docks through our Love Where You Live fund and it’s great to see what an impact they’re making in the community. They have continually broken their own record year on year bringing more free-to-access community engagement opportunities to local residents in Newham. We’re delighted to support them.
Christopher Mike from Art in the Docks shared his gratitude:
“You will have seen and heard how Art in the Docks is firmly anchored at the centre of this community. It was LWYL funding that positioned us as a community asset, and with your support, we continue to amplify the positive effect of this.”
