Consulting our residents on our policies – your help needed

We have been working hard to improve resident input in our policies and procedures. Over the last few months, we have run a range of consultations with residents to get their views on our policy documents and how these could be improved.

Over summer we ran a workshop to get feedback on our now published pest control policy. Residents identified areas where we needed to be clearer about resident and landlord responsibilities and include clear statements on service charges.

This summer we also visited supported housing scheme, Perry Lodge, to discuss wellbeing checks and how we talk about these across multiple policies, to see if there were areas for improvement. Overall, we received positive feedback from residents about our current approach, which gave us reassurance that we were working in the best way for our residents.

Finally, in the lead up to the introduction of Awaab’s law we’ve been consulting with residents on our updated damp and mould policy. In this process, we gave residents extracts of the policy to check if statements were clear and easy to understand.

Though we received a lot of positive feedback on this policy, residents gave us some vital feedback on how we could improve it, by including examples where we use more technical language and simplifying some of our definitions, so they were easier for all residents to understand.

We are currently looking for residents to consult with on our hate incidents and hate crime policy, if you’d like to get involved, please contact us by 4 November at policy@nhg.org.uk.
