  • Remember us in your will

    Leaving us a legacy in your will is a powerful way of helping us help others and giving one last gift to a cause that you care for. A legacy could include money, assets, shares, property or personal possessions.

    Making a will isn't something many of us like to think about. It's easier to put it off, pretend it isn't necessary or hope that things will work themselves out. But writing a will is important, as it lets everybody know how you want your possessions to be distributed after you've gone.

    Donating your property or estate

    Without a will, the law decides what happens to your estate. If you're married, this may mean that everything will pass to your spouse, but it isn't guaranteed. There is a chance that the entire estate could pass to the government if there is no instruction otherwise.

    For a housing charity like us, property is invaluable. A home left to us could be immediately used to house a homeless family, or if large enough, could be converted into a hostel for those in dire need of a roof over their heads.

    Inheritance tax

    Charitable legacies are exempt from inheritance tax. So, if your estate is over the threshold, a legacy to NHG could bring your estate below it and make sure that the difference goes to a cause of your choice.

Add Gift Aid to your donation

Every donation you make to NHG could be worth more at no extra cost to you, just by choosing to Gift Aid it.

If you let us know you'd like to Gift Aid your donation, we can claim back the tax on your donation. This means a £10 donation will be worth £12.50.

By opting for Gift Aid you're basically saying:

I confirm that I am a UK Income or Capital Gains taxpayer. I have read this statement and want the charity to reclaim tax on the donation detailed, given on the date shown. I understand that I must pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the tax year at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs I donate to will reclaim on my gifts for that tax year. I understand that other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. I understand that the charity will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I have given.
