In partnership with the social enterprise 01Founders, we’ve been delivering free coding courses to Grahame Park residents.
This was an amazing opportunity for our residents to pursue a career in tech, as the course graduates will continue their studies at the 01Founders coding school in central London.
Apprenticeships and fellowships are available, alongside learning key soft skills for the workplace such as communication, autonomy and teamwork.
The partnership is spearheaded by Make it Happen, our social value-oriented team who work across the Grahame Park and Woodberry Down regeneration schemes. The Make it Happen mission is to make a positive, resident-focused impact in the community while regeneration is underway.
The first group of Grahame Park coding graduates have already been awarded their certificates for completing their eight-week course, and we are now welcoming more residents to begin their coding journey.
The tech industry is booming in London and coding pedigree is extremely valuable for employers in the sector. Speaking to our coding students, it is great to see that they are already looking forward to future opportunities opening up for them.
Course graduate and Grahame Park resident Amani said she is excited to study further and to do an apprenticeship in tech with 01Founders. Gonzalo, a 50+ graduate, said he embarked on the course as he wanted the chance to upskill himself independently. He told us he had a positive experience and that he was surprised by the ‘quality of the technology as well as the learning environment.’
Course leader Lucy, from 01Founders, noted the importance of coming to communities like Grahame Park, in order to ‘bring digital skills and opportunities to the residents doorstep.’
Our lead programme manager Cali Ibrahim said, ‘we’re so proud of this initiative to deliver digital skills and careers in tech to residents on an estate that might not otherwise experience such opportunities.’
This is a great example of our fruitful partnerships with organisations such as 01Founders as we look to make meaningful and lasting impact in the community through our social value programmes.
