Two Notting Hill Genesis schemes have been nominated for Monday’s (2 July) Housing Design Awards, which celebrates architectural quality in Britain.
New Mildmay in Shoreditch provided 139 homes as well as a new specialist HIV and AIDS hospital, a new building for the Shoreditch Tabernacle Baptist Church and commercial space.
The development replaced a dilapidated hospital and run-down church, while an adjoining Victorian building was retained for use by the church.
Architects for the project were Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and Matthew Lloyd Architects LLP.
Mildmay has been further celebrated for its design and workmanship by being shortlisted for last month’s Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) London Award and Housing Project of the Year at the British Construction Industry Awards on 10 October.
Phase one of Royal Albert Wharf in Newham has also been nominated. The dockside regeneration provided 350 homes in this phase, part of a wider project to create 1,800 homes, 40 per cent of which are affordable housing.
Work space, cafes and bars also line the docks, where an Edwardian pump house is still in operation. The architects for the project were Maccreanor Lavington.
It was recently named Residential Project of the Year (London) by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Extra care facility Hazelhurst Court, in Beckenham Hill, is also among the projects shortlisted. While developed by Phoenix Community Housing, care services there are provided by Notting Hill Genesis.
