Triple award success for 'thriving' Woodberry Down

The transformation of Woodberry Down in Hackney into a thriving new community for thousands of families earned three prestigious awards within a week.

It was named Best Large Development at the Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2018, following on from a double success at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards.

There the 30-year development, in Manor House, had been named both London Project of the Year and Best Regeneration Project.

So far, 1,497 homes have been delivered, with another 563 currently under construction. By the time the regeneration is complete, there will be more than 5,500 new build apartments, 41 per cent of which will be affordable housing.

It has been designed to be impossible to tell the difference between the private and social housing as you walk around the neighbourhood.

Beyond the homes, a new secondary school and community centre, shops and 2.61 acres of new parkland have been created.

Jeremy Stibbe, group director of regeneration and assets for Notting Hill Genesis, said:

“We are committed to creating a thriving, sociable neighbourhood at Woodberry Down based around high quality housing and excellent amenities, providing a huge number of affordable homes for lower-income households.

“It is fantastic that the work we are doing alongside our partners and the wider community has been recognised by the judges and I congratulate everyone involved in the project,” he added.

Woodberry Down is a collaboration between five major partners – Notting Hill Genesis, Hackney Council, Berkeley Homes, Woodberry Down Community Organisation, a resident-led group and Manor House Development Trust, a local social enterprise.
