One home, one planet

After almost 12 months of consultations, meetings and drafting, we are proud to be launching our first comprehensive sustainability strategy.

This strategy captures the views and aspirations of our residents, staff, and partners, and sets out four priority areas and 21 objectives that make up our shared vision for what our homes, green spaces and business could look like with transformational change by 2030.

Providing safe, comfortable and energy efficient homes is at the heart of our strategy, and a top priority for residents. We’ve committed to ensuring all our rented homes achieve an energy performance certification (EPC) of band C by 2030 – with a focus on improving insulation.

For our green spaces, we aim to play a transformative role by providing better spaces for people and nature which will help enhance our communities. We’ll do this by working with ecologists, local residents and organisations to implement nature improvements, and adopting nature friendly management practices in our future gardening contracts.

On climate change, we’ve committed to set out a roadmap to reduce our carbon footprint – with an ambition to achieve net zero carbon emissions for our own business operations by 2035, and net zero for our homes and supply chain by 2050.

And finally, we want to work towards becoming a zero-waste organisation by 2050 – embedding these principles in most our contracts by 2030 and targeting zero waste to landfill.

We have already made progress in becoming more sustainable across our business and homes. This includes our electric car pilot, where all company cars are now electric, and the launch of various community gardens including Grahame Park. You can read more about the progress we’ve made in our most recent ESG report.

Laura Shellard, head of sustainability, says, “The launch of our strategy represents an important milestone; however, we know many of our challenges still lie ahead."

"We believe we can only achieve the scale of ambition by working with our residents, staff and suppliers – and we’re excited about taking the next steps in our journey with everyone we work with.”
