Cyclical works success at Newton Road

As part of our cyclical works programme, we recently completed major refurbishment work at our properties in Newton Road, Westminster.

The period properties are made up of 67 one and two-bedroom homes. Among the work carried out was a complete roof replacement, installation of timber double-glazed windows and new front doors, external repairs and decoration, internal communal decoration and new flooring, installation of a moisture monitoring system to improve ventilation, new intercom and central TV aerial and the re-asphalting of the front entrance area.

Due to the age of the buildings the properties had fallen into quite severe disrepair. This led to resident complaints and general dissatisfaction.

Housing operations manager Susheel Thompson said:

Residents generally felt that although they were living in a lovely area that they were proud of, they couldn’t say the same for their building and home.

Residents welcomed the extensive upgrade and are very happy with the high standard of work completed.

In April we invited our board member Vidur Gupta and Carl Byrne, group director of housing, along for a tour so they could see the good work. All agreed the finished result was very impressive. We will be also welcoming local councillor Maggie Carmen in the coming weeks for a walkabout so that we can share the great work with her.

Most of the work at Newton Road is now complete, we just have a few outstanding properties to finish.
