Our first residents move into new homes on the Aylesbury regeneration

We recently welcomed our first group of residents on Plot 18 of the Aylesbury estate.

This marks an exciting milestone for the Aylesbury regeneration and the start of a new journey for the residents who have been waiting to move into their new homes since we got involved in the project in 2014. Head of social and economic investment Meghan Doyle said, “There were hugs, eyes welling up and genuine excitement, plus palpable relief from those collecting keys and signing tenancy agreements.”

Many of these residents are part of the resident design group and have been heavily involved in the design of their new homes. We’re grateful to have had their constructive feedback throughout the process which has been integral to the final outcome of the development.

Plot 18 will be a new hub at the heart of the Aylesbury community in South London, with local gems like the famous East Street Market just across the road, which serves a culturally diverse community. It has an equally vibrant voluntary and community network, with many of the residents moving in having consistently served the community in a variety of ways over many years.

Alongside the new homes (which include a mixture of social and private rent, as well as homes for private sale and shared ownership), Plot 18 will deliver a spacious new library, a GP surgery and health centre, community and retail facilities and a public square on what has been named Lebanon Street.

Plot 18 is one of many parts of the overall regeneration of the estate that will deliver a master plan for 3,500 new homes, 50% of which will be affordable. There is also a great emphasis on green spaces and spaces for children to play, which has always been important to the community, and of course a focus on quality housing that meets the needs of residents.

It has taken the combined efforts of many staff over the years to get us to this point, so it is a great moment for all. Our focus now moves to ensure we serve our new residents well so that they can enjoy their homes peacefully as Notting Hill Genesis tenants.
